چکیده

Methionine is an amino acid( a building block of protein) hence cannot be produced by the body but only supplied by the diet. This amino acid with the chemical formula HO2HO2CCH (NH2) CH2CH2CH3. This amino acid is scientifically classified as non-polar due to its straight chain that has an S-methyl thioether (C-S-C bonding) at the -carbon (Jackson W.R & Block γ J.R, 1982).For a normal metabolism and growth in human beings, the amino acid must supply sulfur and other essential compounds. Methionine belongs to various groups of compounds including lipotropic which is chemical that helps the human liver process lipids. This amino acid was ilosated in 1922 from casein to belong to the later groups. Other groups in this category include choline, betaine, and inositol.

Role of oxidative stress in pathogenesis of metabolic syndrome

The metabolic syndrome (MS) recognized as a major cause of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases, has become one of the major public health challenges worldwide. The pathogenesis of the metabolic syndrome is multiple and still poorly understood. No single factor has yet been identified as an underlying causal factor. There is a growing belief, however, that obesity, specially visceral obe...

Identification and Expression Analysis of Two Arabidopsis LRR-Protein Encoding Genes Responsive to Some Abiotic Stresses

AbstractTwo Arabidopsis thaliana genes, psr9.2 and psr9.4 appearedto be highly similar to a phosphate-starved induced gene,psr9, isolated from Brassica nigra suspension cells.Sequence analysis classified the encoded polypeptides asmembers of leucine-rich repeat (LRR) proteins superfamily. The sequence of psr9 proteins comprise a unique N-terminalregion e...

Dietary Proteins, Developmental Programming, and Potential Implication in Maternal Obesity

Background: Proteins are known mainly based on their metabolic and nutritional functions including protein synthesis and a source of energy. In spite of various physiological properties attributed to proteins, their functions have neither been addressed by assessing quality of proteins nor by nutrition and dietetic practices. Methods: Studies were included if they were randomized animal studies...

Arabidopsis leaf plasma membrane proteome using a gel free method: Focus on receptor–like kinases

The hydrophobic proteins of plant plasma membrane still remain largely unknown.  For example in the Arabidopsis genome, receptor-like kinases (RLKs) are plasma membrane proteins, functioning as the primary receptors in the signaling of stress conditions, hormones and the presence of pathogens form a diverse family of over 610 genes. A limited number of these proteins have appeard in pr...
